Veterans Memorial Committee Meeting Minutes DRAFT June 29, 2010 Committee Members Present: Edith Stillson, Fred Mellish, Peter Korbet, Bob Dickinson deForest Bearse, Chip Cobb, Aaron Fitzherbert 1. Approve minutes from the last meeting: May 25, 2010 Edith Stillson motioned to approve the minutes of the May 25th meeting as presented. Bob Dickinson seconded the motion and all were in favor. 2. Stone Cutting Update: Aaron Veterans' Names Discussion led to the task of finding the names of all of the veterans who are eligible to have their name on the monument and/or in the Roll of Honor (i.e those who entered military service as residents of Weathersfield). Fred has continued to research. Chip will compare notes with Fred at a later date. Due to concerns raised about what pipes, wires, etc. that may be below the surface where the monument is to be placed, it was deemed prudent to contact dig-safe for a scan of the site. 3. Inscription To you from failing hands we throw Aaron cautioned the committee not to put too much onto the monument. No decision was made regarding an inscription choice.
Chip has invited Lt. Governor Dubie, the Adjutant General, and state chaplain to the dedication ceremony. Fred, deForest and Lisa are continuing to work on compiling the list of Weathersfield veterans to be invited to the ceremony. 4. Educational Component Plan Chip shared photos of a display board that Cookie Shand had seen and thought might be an idea for part of the memorial. The committee could advertise for photos pertaining to specific themes regarding war, peace, those left at home, returning home from conflict, etc.
6. Comments from citizens The flag pole in Ascutney has been re-painted and moved to a slightly different location on the green. Nathalie Whitney has asked that her deceased brother's flag be flow on the pole. She asked to have it returned once it is too worn to fly. It will have to be illuminated by a photo-voltaic unit as there is no electricity available on the green. 7. Next meeting date At 8:30PM, Aaron Fitzherbert motioned to adjourn the meeting. Fred Mellish seconded the motion and all were in favor. NOTE: Committee meetings will be held on the LAST Tuesday of every month unless otherwise noted. Respectfully submitted, |
