2008 - The Fourteenth Once-A-Year Neighborhood Green-Up Association Newsletter Dear Members and Friends,    This is the year of our Vermont Public Radio GLORY! In the VPR statewide fund drive Perkinsville took the gold and Ascutney the bronze. A battalion of VPR staff will help us on Greenup Day. "Perkinsville will be happy to share the VPR volunteers with all of Weathersfield. They will give us a great start to our greenup season, which continues spring, summer, and fall. There's a lot of excitement here over being the state champion. Picture a lot of backslapping and some tasteless antics in the endzone. Party on!" said Steve Aikenhead, the Weathersfield Greenup Co-ordinator. Thanks to VPR for the greenup publicity for all of Vermont, and thanks to all the greenuppers throughout our state. Please respond to the questions below even if after May 3rd. Â
Accomplishments of the past year include: — the big sweep in May and some small-group attacks later — cleaning the Connecticut River by canoe with thanks to North Star Canoe Rental for the canoes — cleaning the Black River by kayak and tire tubes with thanks to Will Hunter for organizing — over 200 families doing loads of ongoing green-up spring, summer and fall Coming green-up: group sweep on SATURDAY, MAY 3. On May 3, starting at 9 AM meet at the Dan Foster House across from the Weathersfield Center Meeting House. If you would like to help supply drinks or cookies, please call Steve at 263-5439. Please enter MAY 3 on your calendar. There will be no other reminder. Green-up and sweep tips: Be prepared for poison ivy. Wear sturdy shoes, long clothes and heavy gloves for protection. Bright clothing makes you visible. Do both sides of the road. The Questions: please say YES or NO for the following questions: 1. Please look at the list on the other side showing where members are doing ongoing green-up.    Will you be doing the 3-season greenup as shown? (Not necessarily the entire road!) 2. Do you know of an area that needs group attention? Please specify. 3. Would you be interested in even more beyond the extra you already do? Example: Tarbell Hill Road 4. Would you like to own a litter-picker-upper device? Donation requested (any amount). I love these. 5. Do you expect to join us at the Dan Foster house on May 3? 6. Would you like green-up bags for re-use this year? We can deliver, or distribute at the Dan Foster House May 3. 7. We have 15 bright yellow vests. I need a request from you in order to save a vest for you. Please check with Norm when dropping off your haul at the dump so the town won't have to pay. I hope we all keep our spirits high, knowing how many of us are helping. Steve Aikenhead 263-5439
