The Springfield Recycling Center and the Ludlow Transfer Station will allow residents to dispose of their hazardous waste for free on Saturday.

Residents can bring any products labeled caustic, caution, corrosive, poison, flammable, warning, danger or toxic.

Latex paint, used motor oil, radioactive material, empty containers, fireworks, tires, medical waste, creosote, or ammunition will not be accepted.

Residents can dispose of lead-based batteries at the Ludlow Transfer Station at a cost of $5 per battery. The Springfield Recycling Center will not accept batteries.

The service is free to households. Businesses can also dispose of their hazardous waste but will be charged a fee and must pre-register by calling 674-9235.

The offer is available to households and businesses in Andover, Baltimore, Cavendish, Chester, Grafton, Ludlow, Plymouth, Reading, Rockingham, Springfield, Weathersfield, Westminster, West Windsor and Windsor.

Participants are asked to remain in their vehicles when they arrive; they will be assisted by staff trained to handle hazardous materials.
