Construction Update: I-91 Bridge Replacement at Exit 8

DATE: Friday, 7/29/22

TRAFFIC IMPACT:

Motorists will encounter a lane reduction and a lane shift in the Northbound and Southbound lanes of the interstate. A crossover traffic pattern has been installed and traffic has been reduced to one lane of travel in each direction within the construction zone. This pattern will remain in place throughout the construction season into the Fall.

Width restrictions are in place on both the Northbound and Southbound lanes of travel. Lane width in each direction is 14 feet maximum. There are no width restrictions for the on and off ramps at Exit 8.

A speed reduction of 55 mph is in place, and fines are doubled for speeding within the construction zone.

Shoulder closures and alternating one-way traffic on Route 131 under the bridge may be required next week.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES, WEEK OF 8/1/22:

Approach work will begin on I-91 Northbound next week. This will have no effect on traffic.

The contractor has mobilized to the site to start the blasting and painting of the bridges. A two-way lane shift is in place on VT 131. This lane shift consists of two 10-foot lanes, one in each direction. This lane shift will be in place until October.

Please note that there will be trucks and equipment entering and leaving the closed work area on I-91. Motorists should not follow construction vehicles into closed off areas.
