Severe Weather Warning

The Weather Service is predicting that this this Friday and Saturday we will experience a "historic weather event." There will be sustained high winds and serious gusts up to 100 mph and scattered to widespread power outages. There is expected to be rain and snow followed by a sudden drop in temperature which will result in ice everywhere, causing treacherous driving conditions. When the power goes out, then so does the water supply for many people. You can prepare by stocking up on bottled drinking water, and by filling your bathtub with water which you can then use to flush your toilets.

If there are downed power lines in your area, assume that they are live, and leave them alone. Let the professionals remove any limbs that have fallen into the power lines.

Although the worst of this event is expected to hit the western side of Vermont, and to be at its worst at 1500 feet of elevation and above, the Connecticut River Valley is still expected to be seriously impacted by this extreme weather.

If you or a neighbor need emergency assistance, call 911.

And remember, if we take care of one another, we can get through this.
